Michele Pirro enters the history of Italian motorcycling
Ninth Italian title for Michele Pirro
Michele Pirro is officially the most titled motorcyclist in the CIV: after Sunday’s races in Imola, the veteran of two-wheel racing has in fact secured his sixth Italian title in the Sbk class, ninth overall including the other classes. The San Giovanni Rotondo native thus climbs to third place in the all-time ranking for tricolor titles, bypassing two legends of the caliber of Carlo Ubbiali and Francesco Villa, eight-time champions.
Only Giacomo Agostini, with 16 national titles, and Tarquinio Provini, with 11, have managed to do better. For Pirro, bearer of the Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati, the title came thanks to a seven-win season, which earned him the Sbk title after those won in the 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons, as well as the SuperSport600 championship in 2009 and STK1000 championships in 2007 and 2008.
