Atp Florence, Jacopo Berrettini extols chemistry with brother Matteo
The doubles loss to the Smith-Cressy pair did not dent the Berrettini brothers’ confidence
They struggled, they cheered the Florence crowd, but in the end they had to bow to the more experienced pair of John-Patrick Smith and Maxime Cressy. Matteo and Jacopo Berrettini came out of the doubles round of 16 match played at the Florence tournament with their heads held high. A positive and exciting experience nonetheless, as noted by the youngest Berrettini. Who made no secret of his desire to try again as soon as possible.
“It is always very nice to play with Matteo, in fact now we are quite gnawing because the opportunity to do it together does not happen every day. In my opinion we were playing very well, quite in control: then unfortunately, as often happens in doubles, the match turned on two points and they were very good at taking advantage of the opportunities they had. At one point we struggled a lot to find the right solutions. So they were better than we were, but surely playing with Matteo is very special,” Jacopo told the microphones of Ubitennis.com.
“Matteo has a good background in doubles behind him, and you can absolutely say that he plays well in this specialty as well. We also saw him in Laver Cup, but also winning other tournaments. He is definitely not used to playing doubles, but I wouldn’t say that I play better than him today. We can play well together, we certainly play very little-we last played together in April last year. So it is also difficult, the level though is there. It’s too bad because in the next round we would have met a very experienced pair, and it would have been nice to face them,” he concluded.
