Marco Van Basten harsh against Salah: "He has the brain of a bug"

In the Liverpool household, the issue related to Mohamed Salah continues to hold sway. After the’last Premier League round against Leeds, the Egyptian took to the microphones and shot his mouth off at his coach Arne Slot: “I could not believe I had to stay on the bench all the time. I have given so much to this club and now I feel I have been dumped, there are those who blame me that I do not feel I have. More promises were made to me in the summer, everything has changed. Slot? I had a good connection, now it’s zero: I think he doesn’t want me here anymore. I love Liverpool, I am a fan of it as well as a footballer: now, however, the only certainty I have for the future is that I will be at the African Cup of Nations, for the rest I don’t know what will happen in the next few days”.

Mohamed Salah&#8217s words went around the world and came an earful from Marco Van Basten, who defended his compatriot Arne Slot: “If this is his reaction to the benches, he has the brain of an insect. Last year he had an outstanding season but this year, at least so far, he hasn&#8217t been up to it and it shows clearly. He has been poor in the last few months. I see Arne Slot as a straightforward and honest person who does not back down from confrontation and never speaks lightly. Salah, on the other hand, has started attacking the man and behaving inappropriately” he told Ziggo Sport.

As punishment, Arne Slot decided not to call up Mohamed Salah for the Champions League match against Inter Milan, and the Egyptian stayed in England to train alone. “I did not expect these statements from Salah because of the way he had trained and the way he had behaved in the past few days, absolutely not,” Arne Slot said before the challenge with Inter. “The reaction is what we decided immediately: he was not summoned and he will not be from the match. The only communication we had after Saturday was the nonconvocation. We talked often before, sometimes longer sometimes less. Whether he will play against Brighton? We are on the eve of an important game against Inter. We will evaluate. I firmly believe that there is always a chance that a player will return to play. If he played his last game with Liverpool? I cannot answer that at this moment”.

The rift between Mohamed Salah and the Liverpool world now seems irremediable and the hypothesis of a farewell as early as January is gaining momentum: several Arab clubs are on the trail of the very strong Egyptian, and Simone Inzaghi&#8217s Ah Hilal seems to be in pole at the moment. The Riyadh-based club is looking for a new superstar to add to its roster and has had its eye on Salah for some time: already in the summer some emissaries tried to convince him to move to Saudi Arabia but failed, now things have changed and it could be the right time. At the’Al Hilal Salah would find again the’former teammate Darwin Núñez.
