Torino’s blow in Reggio Emilia, Sassuolo knocked out at home

Second consecutive victory for Marco Baroni’s Torino, which narrowly defeated Sassuolo 1-0 in Reggio Emilia in the match valid for the 16th day of Serie A. The match was decided by Vlasic’s goal on a penalty kick: the granata climb back to 12th place with 20 points, while the neroverdi remain stuck in 10th place at 21.

The team’s goal was scored by Vlasic.

Little to report in the first half, with Sassuolo goalkeeper Muric and Torino goalkeeper Paleari poorly engaged. Cheddira hit a crossbar at the start but the game was stopped for an irregular position, at 22′ the’only thrill: Doig knocked Adams down in the Greenoro penalty area, referee Calzavara awarded the penalty for the guests but then corrected himself when VAR signaled a foul at the’origin of the action. In the final half Zapata has a good chance but sends it over the crossbar.

Decidedly more exciting second half, Sassuolo had two chances with Volpato but it was Torino that had a great chance with Lazaro, who gobbled up the lead goal on an assist from Adams. At 64′ there’s the penalty for Baroni’s team: Doig knocks down Simeone, this time there are no doubts and from the penalty spot comes Torino’s lead through Vlasic.
