“As in all contracts, one side pulls in one direction and the’other in another. Carlos’s entourage thinks about what is best for him, and mine thinks about what is best for me. There were some issues on which both sides disagreed. Maybe they could have been resolved if we had sat down and talked, but in the end we didn&#8217t and decided not to continue together. This is exactly what happened”, the clear words of Juan Carlos Ferrero to Spanish media Marca.

The coach would have liked to continue coaching Carlos Alcaraz: “It was a very positive year and, when it ended in Turin, it is true that we all had the idea of continuing. Then what happened happened and we went our separate ways, but initially the’idea was to continue”. However, no “direct attack” towards the world number 1: “I think we are both grateful that we found each other”. On the future, Juan Carlos Ferrero is cautious: “I am not considering other options because I need two or three months of rest and for the pain to subside”.

Obviously, there is also talk of a possible beginning of a working relationship with Jannik Sinner: “Should I get an offer from him? That is something I would have to think about. They are amazing players, but as I said before, this is not the time to think about something like that and say yes or no. Now is the time to get through this difficult period because I still think about Carlos every day, and it is not the time to think about others”.

In short, Juan Carlos Ferrero is still struggling to put the past behind him. The relationship with Carlos Alcaraz was very deep and, as a result, already thinking now about what he will do in the future is not a viable’option. There will be a way and time to do that. Who knows, maybe we will see him “lead” Jannik Sinner someday.
