All Milan fans were hoping that, by Christmas, something would be unblocked. It would have been a wonderful gift to have the confirmation of Mike Maignan’s renewal with the Diavolo. Instead, the parties involved are firm on their positions and, at the moment, everything is completely stalled. The Rossoneri club wants the French goalkeeper to stay but is not willing to spend as much as requested by the extreme defender’s entourage. As a result, negotiations completely on stand-by due to the strong disappointment of the whole Rossoneri environment.

The positions have been known for some time. Mike Maignan’s entourage has reportedly asked for eight million euros in salary per season to get to the signing of the new contract with the Diavolo. On the other hand, the Rossoneri club does not paare willing to go beyond five million a year, an important figure but not up to the demands of the French goalkeeper&#8217s agents. The problem is that, the more time passes, the more the risk of losing Mike Maignan on a zero-parameter basis increases (his current contract expires at the end of the current season).

The Diavolo’s hope is that, eventually, Mike Maignan will also put his hand on his heart and realize how much he is loved in Milan, Rossoneri side. Moreover, the Rossoneri project is ambitious, as are the goalkeeper’s dreams. Or that, the five-million-euro-a-season offer might be enough to keep him. The problem is that there would be other clubs, especially from the Premier League, willing to put more economically advantageous proposals on the table. There is even talk of offers close to 10 million euros per season.

In order not to be left empty-handed in case the negotiations fail, however, Milan is considering many other options. These include Hugo Souza, a Corinthians goalkeeper. Born in 1999, the Brazilian would be very much liked by the Rossoneri’s top management and, most importantly, would cost much less than Mike Maignan.

In addition, history tells of many Brazilian goalkeepers who have done well in Milan, both at AC Milan and Inter. One thinks, for example, of Dida, who remained in the hearts of many Rossoneri fans. Or Julio Cesar, one of Inter’s heroes who won the Champions League in 2010. In short, Brazilian goalkeepers are welcome in Milan.
