On Sunday, Jan. 25, in prime time on Italia 1, “Le Iene,” the program hosted by Veronica Gentili flanked by Max Angioni, returns. Among the episode’s reports will be a new one on Achille Polonara. Nicolò De Devitiis followed him in his return to Sassari at Dinamo, the team he had already played for until 2019. After going public last year with his diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, the club has decided to welcome him back, pending his return to the parquet.

Last Sunday Achille Polonara returned to the arena in front of the program’s cameras: an intense and emotional moment, accompanied by the embrace of his teammates and the ovation of the fans, who never stopped supporting him. A few days after taking part in the journey of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic flame as a torchbearer, Achille Polonara had participated in ‘Verissimo’ on Channel 5: “The worst is over”, he had a said, aware however that the path to normality is still long.

In the studio, Polonara had been accompanied by his wife Erika and two children: “Thanks to my family I am living in serene moment – he had explained -. My wife has not left me alone even for a second, and my children give me enormous strength. I went through very bad times, Erika has been extraordinary. Going back to play? Of course I would like to, but now I have to think about getting healthy: I live day by day, I hope that new year means new life, as the saying goes”.

Also representing a kind of rebirth was the symbolic moment on December 6, when Polonara precisely carried the Olympic flame during the Milan-Cortina 2026 trip. Polonara’s presence as torchbearer had taken on an even more special significance considering that only a few weeks earlier, in late November, he had made his first public appearance at the Nova Arena in Tortona during Italy-Iceland.

A match for which coach Luca Banchi had also symbolically entrusted him with the captain’s stripes, as a gesture of closeness from the Azzurro coaching staff and the Federbasket.
