Remco Evenepoel defended the leader’s jersey won the previous day in the fifth and final stage of the Volta a Valencia, thus celebrating his first victory in a stage race in the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe jersey. Giulio Pellizzari was also not undermined again from the top of the youth classification. Meanwhile, Emil Herzog narrowly missed out on the stage win, finishing in second place.

Emil was throughout the day part of the breakaway, which eventually maintained a minimal lead over the peloton and played for the victory in the sprint. At one point the 21-year-old also tried solo action. At the finish line, he only missed half a wheel to take the win.

In the overall standings, meanwhile, there were no twists and turns. The team controlled the race at all times on the short but challenging 95 kilometers from Bétera to Valencia. Remco and Julius remained alert at all times, so that the first and third place positions in the final standings never changed again. With Aleksandr Vlasov seventh, a third rider from the team entered the top 10.

“It was a very good week indeed, which started in the best way with Arne in second place. Day by day we improved and got more good stage results. We now close the overall standings in first and third place. It has been a fantastic week here in Valencia”, said Remco Evenepoel.
