Wednesday night’s match between Bologna and Lazio will complete the framework of the Coppa Italia quarterfinals: after Como, Inter and Atalanta, the challenge at the Dall’Ara will return the fourth semifinalist (who will face Dea).

Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna is having a season below expectations. Although in the Europa League the team has managed to qualify for the play-offs, even touching direct access, in the league the situation is quite different: the Rossoblù in the last 12 rounds have won the three points only in the away match at the Bentegodi against Verona.

The team’s European goals are not the same.

European goals, therefore, appear distant and the Coppa Italia may be the way to access European competitions, which are difficult to achieve through the league. Italiano will have to do without Heggem and Lykogiannis, both out due to injury; in their place will be Miranda and Casale with Lucumì and Zortea rounding out the department. In the middle of the field Freuler and Pobega, on the three-quarter will return Orsolini from the first minute with Odgaard and Cambiaghi. Castro will be the only point.

The Coppa Italia may also be the turning point of the season for Lazio: the team led by Maurizio Sarri is not performing according to expectations. The results in the league remain fluctuating but slightly improving: in the last round against Juventus, the victory slipped away only in the dying minutes with Kalulu’s header goal, an episode that nonetheless hints at signs of recovery for Sarri’s lineup. The Tuscan coach, who will not be able to count on Zaccagni and Lazzari (unavailable due to injury), is expected to come up with a 4-3-3 with Provedel defending the posts, defense composed of Tavares and Marusic wide with Romagnoli and Provstgaard central. In the midfield will be Cataldi and Dele Bashiru, Taylor will play higher with Isaksen and Pedro on his sides. Maldini will be the offensive reference.
