Third career victory at the UAE Tour for Lidl-Trek sprinter Jonathan Milan, who won ahead of Ethan Vernon and his brother Matteo Milan, his first-ever WorldTour podium finish.

The sprint finish was anything but a foregone conclusion, as the breakaway of four – Patrick Gamper, Stefan De Bod, Lorenzo Milesi and Georg Steinhauser – held off the peloton until the last kilometer, setting up a tension-filled epilogue. On the eve of the Dubai stage, once again suited for sprinters, there are no changes in the overall standings, with Antonio Tiberi retaining the Red Jersey 21 seconds ahead of Isaac Del Toro.

Talking at the press conference, Jonathan Milan congratulated his younger brother: “It’s great to win today, and even more so with my younger brother also in the top 3. I saw him in the last kilometer, that was the last moment I saw him. After the finish I saw him cheering for me and he came to tell me he had finished third. This is his first WorldTour race, so please let’s not put pressure on him!”.

“I am really proud of what he did today, he will have many years ahead to have fun and enjoy cycling. We will see in the future if he becomes as fast as me, but first let him enjoy cycling and then we will see what he will become”.
