Matteo Berrettini doesn’t party in quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro

Matteo Berrettini’s path to the quarterfinals at the Rio Open, an ATP 500 tournament underway on the clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro.
The Blue, current number 57 in the ATP rankings, was defeated by Peruvian Ignacio Buse, world number 91. The match ended with a score of 6-3 2-6 6-3 in favor of the 21-year-old South American after two hours and 19 minutes of actual play, net of numerous rain interruptions.
“Today was really tough because we stopped, I think, four times”, recounted Buse. The last stoppage came at 5-2 in the third set in his favor.When he resumed, Berrettini saved two match points on serve, but he only postponed the denouement because the Peruvian’s last serve lasted just 62 seconds.
According to live ATP ranking projections, Buse is now virtually world number 66, a new personal best ranking. Should he win the title, he could push himself even higher, approaching the Top 50.
