No one like Olimpia. Beating, in the final, Bertram Tortona, the’EA7 took home what is the ninth Coppa Italia in its history. Counting in hand, it is the club with the highest number of Italian Cups won (detached Virtus Bologna, stopped at eight). The one in Turin 2026 harks back to the first success achieved in this competition, which in fact dates back to 1972, obviously in another arena in Turin, at Parco Ruffini.

In the Armani era, this is the fifth Coppa Italia: Olimpia previously won it in 2016 in Milan, 2017 in Rimini, 2021 in Milan and 2022 in Pesaro, interestingly against the same Tortona defeated yesterday in the final. It is also the fifth win in the Final Eight era, so Treviso’s record was also tied. Finally, Turin’s three victories brought the total in the Italian Cup to 109 which surpasses Virtus Bologna’s 108. Olimpia has a record in Italian Cup games of 109 won and 47 lost, 69.9% success rate.

Since three titles are awarded per season in Italy, this is the third time Olimpia has come up with two trophies mid-year. It had happened in 2017 when the Jasmin Repesa-coached team won the Supercoppa in Milan and then asserted itself in the Coppa Italia in Rimini by beating Dinamo Sassari – the last team to achieve the Triplete in 2015 -; and then in 2021 when under Ettore Messina (there were both Shavon Shields and Zach LeDay), Olimpia won the Supercoppa in Bologna by beating Virtus and then the Coppa Italia in Milan by overcoming Pesaro in the final. However, in neither of those two seasons did it then manage to win the Scudetto.

The success in Turin is number 17 in the Armani era, which began in the summer of 2008. Since then, Olimpia has won six championships, five Italian Cups and six Super Cups. Peppe Poeta is the fifth winning coach under the Armani wing. Poeta is also the second ever to win the Italian Cup as both a player and a coach.

After the Italian Cup Final Eight, Olimpia Milano is now called upon to make a big effort in the Euroleague to try to grab the play-in (a decidedly complicated goal) and prepare for the postseason in the league with the dream of winning, again, the Scudetto and climbing to 18 trophies in the Armani era.
