American Floyd Mayweather and Filipino Manny Pacquiao, two veritable institutions of world boxing, will return to compete in a professional bout on September 19 in Las Vegas. The announcement came from Netflix. Mayweather, 48, had announced Friday his intention to return to the ring, while Pacquiao, 47, had already resumed fighting last year. The two former world champions had already faced each other in May 2015 in Las Vegas: on that occasion the American, who ended his career undefeated, won.

“Floyd and I gave the world what was considered the greatest match in the history of boxing– said Pacquiao -The fans have been waiting for a long time and they deserve this rematch”. Mayweather, who has had 50 fights and will turn 49 next Tuesday, had retired in 2017. In the spring he also announced a nonprofessional match against another boxing legend, compatriot Mike Tyson.

The match between the two legends will be staged in the now iconic Sphere at the Venetian Resort, the’huge round structure that has also served as the backdrop in recent years for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The purses have not yet been released, but the figures are sure to be record-breaking (as are ticket prices): Floyd Mayweather in 2015 grossed between $250 million and $300 million, while Manny Pacquiao stopped around $150.
