Red Bull driver Max Verstappen in a press conference on the sidelines of the Grand Prix in China returned to talk about his future, sending clear signals to the top management of Formula 1: “I don’t have to be simply an F1 driver. I can also do other things, especially because I have been racing in F1 for a while and I have already achieved everything I wanted. I would like to have a little more fun here in F1, but I can also do other things”.

“I am also doing other things that I really enjoy. I am racing at the Nordschleife and I hope in the next few years to race at Spa and Le Mans. I am combining it all to find other things that I really enjoy. I have a lot of distractions. Beautiful distractions, I would call them” said the four-time world champion.

Verstappen has been harshly criticizing the new Formula 1 regulations for months, which he says betrays the spirit of racing. “I don’t want to leave, but I also obviously hope that things will improve. I have had discussions with Fom and Fia and I think they are working for something, hopefully, and hopefully it will improve everything”.

“I really don&#8217t like driving this car, I would like to have some fun’more. But I enjoy working with all the people in the team and in the engine department. I have already achieved everything I wanted to achieve, that is why I want to explore even more. And I don&#17t want to do it at 40, but right away. I also like endurance racing because my father used to do it”.

The gap from the teams in front is still clear: “It is impossible to know if the gap will narrow in China. Honestly, it&#8217s a jungle out there right now. I hope it will get a little closer’ but it is clear that we cannot fight with those cars at the moment. There is no chance for us to match the pace of Mercedes and Ferrari“.
