F1 budget cap: Red Bull sanctions official, Fia announcement
F1: Federation released details of Red Bull’s spending limit violation
After weeks of rumors, the Fia has finally released the details of Red Bull’s budget cap violation in the 2021 season.
The Austrian team, which won the drivers’ title last year with Max Verstappen, exceeded its spending limits by about $2.2 million, compared with the spending cap set at $145 million. Red Bull thus exceeded the limit by about 1.6 percent.
The Federation in the statement also announced the sanctions against the team: fine of $7 million, and most importantly a 10 percent reduction in the car’s development time for next season.
It was Sebastian Vettel who was the first driver to win a world championship with Red Bull. The German put everyone in line for four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013. The Austrian stable returned to success in 2021 thanks to Dutchman Max Verstappen, with the son of art repeating the following year. If there was a battle to the last in 2021, that was not the case in 2022
