Carlos Sainz tries to justify Mattia Binotto
Carlos Sainz’s words.
Carlos Sainz at the microphones of Sky Sport F1 spoke after the Hungarian Grand Prix: “For me today it was clear that there was something wrong, with the car and with the tires. We had a car that was very fast on Friday, already yesterday we did not dominate and today with even colder weather we took another step back. For me no tire was going today. Not even the soft one as we saw in the end of the race. When the pace is so bad even strategy is difficult.”
“Slow pit stops? Yes, especially the first stop: there we could overcut Russell and I could take the lead in the race. Instead, the slow stop cost us. We need to keep improving to come back after the break stronger on all fronts. Disappointment? It is clearly big for us. We had the feeling after Friday that we could dominate the weekend. But these weather conditions came and affected qualifying and the race. We had no pace and we were screwed by these conditions. They affected the balance of the car so much in my opinion. I was not at all today, I had incredible degradation compared to Friday. I didn’t expect it, it was strange and hard to understand,” concluded the Spaniard.
