Rafa forced to retire

It was Rafael Nadal himself who announced his withdrawal from the Montreal Masters 1000, by means of a post published on his Twitter account: “After the vacations and my subsequent return to training, everything has been going well these weeks. Four days ago I also started practicing my serve and yesterday, after the training session, I had a little discomfort that remained today.”

“We decided not to travel to Montreal and to continue training without forcing. I would like to thank the tournament director, Eugène, and his entire team for the understanding and support they have always shown me and today was no exception. I hope to play again in Montreal, a tournament I love and have won five times in front of a public that has always welcomed me warmly. At this stage I have to be cautious and think about my health,” continued the Spanish tennis player.

After Novak Djokovic, who is absent for quite different reasons (not vaccinated against Covid-19, he cannot enter Canada), the Montreal Masters 1000 tournament loses another big shot.
