The World Motoring Council came to a compromise: bottom edges raised by 15 millimeters

The World Motor Sport Council has approved changes to Formula 1 technical regulations to address the porpoising problem, which will be implemented immediately from the next races. The Fia has made it official that the bottom edges will be raised by 15 millimeters, a compromise to meet Ferrari and Red Bull first and foremost. An additional sensor will be required to monitor porpoising, and the ground clearance of the diffuser will be increased.

These are the words of President Mohammed Ben Sulayem: “Safety is absolutely the FIA’s top priority, and we have devoted significant time and resources to analyzing and resolving the porpoising issue. I have personally discussed this with all the teams and all the drivers. Clearly there have been some differing views on this due to the balance of power in the field, but it has been very clear that the Federation has a duty to act and make sure that drivers are not put at undue risk of injury because of this phenomenon.”
