Filippo Tortu clarifies doubts about his future
At Mypersonaltrainer Days Filippo Tortu looked back on the epic evening of his Olympic triumph in the 4×100: “It was a great responsibility for which I am very grateful. It sounds crazy, but I think an individual sport like athletics is the ultimate expression of team sport.”
“All it took was for one of the three ahead of me to run a hundredth slower and we would have finished second. So it’s a credit that has to be shared precisely 25 percent among everyone, and that’s what I liked the most. It was the fruit of years of teamwork.”
“The memory of Tokyo is definitely a beautiful moment in my life and career, but now I want to think about what I still have to do, the next Olympics,” said the Italian athlete. “As for next year, however, the goal is the World Championships, which start in August, and I would not mind doing the 100 meters as well. If I really had to choose I would focus on the 200, however, I plan to run both races. This year I had to stop the season after the European Championships, but I’m sure I can still run under 10 seconds.”
