Milan breathtaking at Empoli: victory in the recovery. But Pioli loses three players
Pioli’s Milan gets three valuable points against Empoli, breathtaking finish
An evening of great emotions for AC Milan in Empoli: the Italian champions beat the Azzurri 3-1 in the last minute at Castellani in the match valid for the eighth day of Serie A.
Pioli’s men make the match for a long time but do not go through because of the hosts’ goalkeeper Vicario, author of some great saves on Leao and Tonali, and bad luck (Giroud in the 57th minute hits the crossbar on a free kick). The Rossoneri also had to deal with three injuries: in the first half Saelemaekers and Calabria went down with muscle problems, in the second half it was Kjaer who raised the white flag.
In the 79th minute Rebic finally managed to unlock the challenge for the Diavolo, taking advantage of a slip-up by the Tuscan defense that forgot about Leao, who was good at serving the Croatian for 1-0.
Crazy ending: Empoli equalized with Bajrami on a free kick in the 93rd minute, but a lap of the clock later Milan reacted and went right back ahead with Ballo-Touré, on Krunic’s bank. In the 97th minute the final trio signed by Leao with a beautiful lob on a counterattack. Thanks to this success, Milan second, three points behind Napoli.
