F1, Esteban Ocon sets target for Suzuka
“I really believe that we can keep moving forward,” said the French driver
Esteban Ocon, French driver active in Formula 1 with Alpine, indulged in an interview with the microphones of ‘Marca,’ in which he touched on various points ahead of the Suzuka Grand Prix in Japan.
First, Ocon, fresh from 16th place in Marina Bay, expressed his feelings about the Japanese circuit, “We are bringing evolutions that work on the A522 when we put them on, so hopefully we can do it again in Suzuka. In 2017 I was third at this circuit for a few laps of the Grand Prix. It is one of my all-time favorite circuits. I like the challenge of the first chicane and the feel of the circuit. If the car works well, we will try to get the best. Being able to qualify in the top 10 on Saturday and earn points would be nice. That is our goal from the beginning. Then we’ll see how the Grand Prix goes.”
The Frenchman then added a thought on the mechanical failure that forced teammate Fernando Alonso to retire in Singapore: “In F1 this kind of thing tends to happen, it’s racing. We don’t want it to happen, of course, but the whole network has problems. I had some too, of course. I had a lot of penalties recently, I had problems in Singapore…. It is also true that we have to finish races, for which it is essential to be more reliable.”
“I really believe that we can keep going forward, as we are doing now with Fernando in the team. I think we are on the right track. Alonso is going to another team and we have to accept that, that’s the way it is. We know we can achieve the goal we set for ourselves,” concluded the former Renault driver among others.
