F1 budget cap, Red Bull guilty: what’s at risk now
Red Bull is found guilty by the Fia of violating the budget limit imposed in 2021.
The Fia found Red Bull and Aston Martin guilty of violating the 2021 budget cap, which is the cost limit imposed by the new rules set last season. The federation found a procedural violation with spending infraction of less than 5 percent for Red Bull in the 2021 World Championship and only one procedural violation for Aston Martin, while the other teams are in compliance.
Red Bull, which won a World Championship by spending more than allowed, is waiting to know the penalty it faces: the Austrian team risks from a simple reprimand for the mildest punishment to a deduction of points in the World Championship rankings. But a simple fine is more likely, given the size of the violation, if it admits guilt. A restriction on aerodynamic testing is also possible.
