Giacomo Agostini unleashed: “This is how an octogenarian goes on the track.”
Giacomo Agostini unleashed
First day for the Misano Classic at MWC in the sign of Giacomo Agostini. The 15-time world champion celebrated in Riders’ Land, the sporting soul of Motor Valley, his 80th birthday together with many fans and the motorcycles that have written historic pages of world motorcycling.
Exciting was the parade on the circuit that saw him win in August 1972 in the first motorcycle race held at the Misano racetrack. Significantly, it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the facility. Near him were IMF President Giovanni Copioli and Vice President Rocco Lo Pardo.
“We are proud to have hosted this exciting birthday,” says Andrea Albani, MWC managing director, “in the year in which we celebrate half a century of activity. Thanks to Federmoto and President Copioli for thinking of this beautiful event. Ago won the first motorcycle race held precisely in Misano fifty years ago, and since that day all the great motorsport champions have raced here. Today MWC is in the world elite of circuits and thanks to planned investments we are ready for new challenges.”

On Saturday he did so with the MV Agusta 500 GP three-cylinder, a vehicle with which he won seven of his 15 world championships and with which he became famous as a sportsman in the common imagination. “Someone is thinking of pulling a hard break on me, but I’m ready to show how an 80-year-old goes on the track,” said ‘Ago’ on the starting line.
In the afternoon, appointments dedicated to the book presentation to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Historical Register, a work illustrating 65 masterpieces of Italian motorcycle engineering to tell the story of the years from 1911 to the present, tracing the phenomena of customs and events that have characterized the history of our country.
To follow, presentation of the work promoted by Misano World Circuit for publisher Giorgio Nada, entitled “Misano World Circuit 50 Years of Racing,” edited by Marco Montemaggi in collaboration with Marco Masetti, Sergio Remondino, Luigi Rivola and Alberto Gimmelli.
