MotoGp, Australian Grand Prix: Pecco Bagnaia and on-track calculations
Quartararo fell on lap 10
The Australian GP was won by Alex Rins but Pecco Bagnaia is the new leader of the World Championship. The Ducatista has a 14-point lead over Fabio Quartararo, who crashed on lap 10 of the race at Phillip Island.
“I’m happy to be leading the World Championship, less so for the race: being at the top of the standings is very important, but I’m not gloating yet. When I heard that Quartararo had crashed my race changed. I told myself that a win would be important, but you also had to manage and I also accepted the podium as a result. It’s okay,” his words in the post-match of the race.
After six titles won by Valentino Rossi in eight years it was the Spanish riders who took the lion’s share of the MotoGp world championship. From 2012 to 2020 only they have won, with Jorge Lorenzo a two-time world champion, Marc Marquez (6) and Joan Mir, triumphant in 2020 with his Suzuki.
