Roma privateer at Marassi: a Lorenzo Pellegrini penalty is enough against Sampdoria
Mourinho beats Stankovic
A very solid performance by Jose Mourinho’s Roma as they won 0-1 at Marassi against Dejan Stankovic’s Sampdoria, who, coached by the Portuguese, won the Triplete with the Inter shirt.
The Capitoline side started off strong and in the seventh minute found the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick by captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, following a hand touch by defender Alex Ferrari, which was detected with the help of Var. The men led by the Serbian coach, however, did not throw in the towel and even tried to take over the ball of the game.
After halftime, the Blucerchiati re-entered the field with two new faces: those of Nicola Murru and Ignacio Pussetto. Stankovic’s substitutions give more freshness to Sampdoria’s attack, which, however, fails to create major headaches for Giallorossi goalkeeper Rui Patricio. Indeed, it was Roma that came close to doubling the score when Zaniolo put the ball in the back of the net after a breakaway that had put the Genoa defense in great difficulty and when he saw the 0-2 goal cancelled out on Karsdorp’s suggestion, for offside.
Mourinho’s men thus clinched their seventh win in the first 10 league matches and moved up to fourth place, minus one from Italian champions AC Milan.
