Daniele Santarelli on Paola Egonu: “Smart but impulsive, racism has nothing to do with it.”
Daniele Santarelli has his say on the ‘Egonu case’
Daniele Santarelli, technical commissioner of the women’s volleyball world champion Serbia and former coach in Conegliano of Paola Egonu has his say on the unpleasant affair she has been involved in. “I would like to throw some water on the media fire. Paola is an intelligent girl, but also very impulsive and emotional. I think her outburst was due to a combination of situations, above all the disappointment at not reaching the final in a World Cup in which Italy felt it was the strongest team,” she tells the ‘Giornale’.
“Paola is the first to understand that the problem of racism has nothing to do with the national team,” Santarelli adds. “Unfortunately, keyboard lions are always lurking, and as sportsmen we know that one day you are phenomena and the next day you become brocchi. I am convinced that he will retrace his steps: he will not abandon the national team because he knows he can still give so much to the blue jersey.”
