Virtus Bologna overwhelmed, Sergio Scariolo has no illusions
Partizan Belgrade annihilated Bologna 90-62
Never in the game. One could sum up Virtus Bologna’s evening at home with Zeljko Obradovic, coach of Partizan Belgrade, who overwhelmed the Felsinei in the fourth day of the Euroleague.
It was a match that was never in dispute, dominated by the Slavs from the very first bars, as also shown by the quarter partials: 27-11, 24-21, 18-15 and 21-15. And the same final score, 90-62, with the game practically already on ice at the end of the third quarter for the hosts.
At the end of the game the coach of the ‘Black Vu’s’, Sergio Scariolo, commented very realistically on the performance of his team.
“The gap that was created in the first quarter basically determined the game. In the middle quarters we played, albeit with mistakes, and in the last quarter unfortunately we gave up. Partizan was the better team tonight, we accept that, and we work from tomorrow to grow.
They played really well, with energy and decisiveness, and they put up a physical defense. We are very late in the development of the team, and with an important player out like Shengelia then, but we should have done better. We made several mistakes that should not be repeated.
Teodosic? He missed the whole preseason. He returned last week, from June. That’s a long time for a player like him. I can’t say when he will be in top form, he is already giving good minutes anyway. But we don’t plan to play him 30′ a game. We want to use his very high basketball IQ in the best way. We are in no hurry,” the Italian coach began.
“Goals? We are in our first year in the Euroleague after a long time. Everyone, from myself, to the team, to the fans to the society, must understand that the Euroleague of 15 years ago is not what it is now. It is much more competitive and physical. We want to be in the group of teams that will play for the playoffs until the end. I would have a hard time saying 2 teams that will definitely be out, let alone 10. It will be tough, we have to grow. Last season was about waiting for a return to the Euroleague, and we succeeded by winning the Euroleague. It is a two-sided medal, one is beautiful, the other is tough. We know there will be pain, and we will fight to give our best,” he concluded.
