Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz: “Better than McEnroe-Borg, they raised the bar.”
Us Open director: “Even more of McEnroe-Borg and Sampras-Agassi.”
Us Open director Stacey Allaster, in an interview with the Slam tournament podcast, returned to extol the quarterfinal played between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, which many have pointed to as the true beginning of the rivalry between the two rising tennis stars.
“We saw John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg how great they were, even Sampras and Agassi had played matches of a great level. But this match raised the bar even higher. I think it was the beginning of a new rivalry: the new generation will soon take the full stage and take the sport to a new level.”
According to Allaster Sinner and Alcaraz “showed the world that not only are they ready, but they also want to take tennis to a new dimension. It was the best match I have ever seen.”
