Jannik Sinner eases tension in the rain: smiles and selfies for the champion

The unpredictability of the London weather manifested itself in a decidedly clear way shortly after the start of the scheduled matches on Saturday, July 5: in fact, a downpour of rain forced the organizers to suspend the ongoing matches and cover the grass courts with classic waterproof tarpaulins. Among the tennis players watching out for weather developments is Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1.
Committed in the third round against Pedro Martinez at 2:30 p.m. (time subject to change depending on how the weather situation evolves), Sinner arrived in the courts area without seeming too worried: for him, moreover, there was a champion’s welcome from several very young tennis players, who stopped him to exchange a few jokes and take a few selfies to store on their smartphones and post on social networks.
This year’s is the sixth Wimbledon appearance for Jannik Sinner, the fifth at the main draw level: in 2019, in fact, he participated in the qualifiers, but stopped in the first round against Alex Bolt. In 2021, he was eliminated in the first round of the main draw by Marton Fucsovics, while significantly better in the next three editions.
In 2022, in fact, Sinner climbed all the way to the quarterfinals by surrendering to Novak Djokovic, the same opponent who ousted him from the tournament by beating him in the semifinals in 2023. Last year, on the other hand, it was Daniil Medvedev who was Sinner’s executioner, still in the quarters: the Russian, this year, however, is not a threat, having been eliminated in the first round by Benjamin Bonzi.
