F1, McLaren avalanche against Red Bull: ‘Sick of their fairy tales’
At the microphones of Sky Sports, McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl did not spare himself when talking about Red Bull: “I have mixed feelings about them after what happened with the budget cap. We are glad that the Fia established the violation and took action but the penalty is clearly not appropriate.”
“Red Bull’s violation undoubtedly deserved a harsher punishment, our wish is to see penalties commensurate with irregularities in the future, not as happened this time. If I may add, I also say that we are fed up with their fairy tales,” Seidl’s broadside.
Ferrari Racing Director Laurent Mekies is also of the same opinion: “On the ‘magnitude of the violation’ we could discuss: we have talked a lot and we know that 2 million is a big violation, it is equivalent to a couple of tenths. These are numbers that have a real impact on racing, it is a figure of some importance. We can never be happy with the penalty. We don’t understand how the 10 percent reduction corresponds to the two-tenths advantage, plus there was no budget cap reduction.”
“They can spend it elsewhere, improving the car. This combination makes us fear that the real effect of the penalty is small. But now we need to turn the page, hopefully we won’t have to wait so long for the 2022 budget cap,” Mekies concluded.
