Next Gen ATP Finals, Lorenzo Musetti dreams big
All set for the fifth edition of the tournament reserved for the rising stars of world tennis
Needless to hide it, needless to hide: Lorenzo Musetti is the big favorite for the fifth edition of the Next Gen Atp Finals, which will kick off on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 12. The rankings say it – all the more so now that the new Top Ten Holger Rune, fresh winner in Paris-Bercy, has ‘transferred’ as reserve at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin – and the state of his form says it. The clear defeat in France suffered at the hands of a Novak Djokovic who appeared for the occasion to be that unplayable outclassman who has dominated the circuit for years, did not taint the Carrara native’s extraordinary 2022 in the slightest.
On the eve of his debut on the courts of Milan’s Palalido, the world number 23 made statements to Sky Sport.
“I am confident that this can be a good end to the season, we hope to close with a bang. I expect a week full of difficulties. I have a tough round, all the players are good,” began Musetti, who then returned to the match against the Serbian champion, also retracing his excellent season: “Of Paris there remains the disappointment for not having expressed myself at my best, but I have to give credit to a great Nole. However, there remains the joy of the first quarterfinal in a Masters 1000, my first win against one of the top five, and the very good feelings in the four matches played .My 2022? It all started with the victory in Hamburg: it made me change gears. Then the third round at the US Open, the win in Naples, and the best ranking. So many things one after another that really made me mature,” concluded the Italian tennis player.
