Milan, yet another award for Stefano Pioli
Pioli honored by Balata
The organization of the Gentleman FairPlay Award, in collaboration with Lega Serie B, presented the special ‘Gentleman Coach Gigi Simoni 2021/22’ award to Stefano Pioli in Milan. The ceremony at the Lega Serie B headquarters in the presence of president Mauro Balata, award organizer Gianfranco Fasan, Coni Lombardy Committee president Marco Riva and Leonardo Simoni, the son of the former coach of, among others, Pisa, Cremonese and Inter.
The Ac Milan coach was among the Italian soccer coaches to have garnered the most votes from the twenty current Serie BKT coaches: according to his colleagues, during the 2021/2022 season, Pioli would have represented the values that have always distinguished Gigi Simoni, an undisputed lord of our soccer to whom the award, now in its second edition, is dedicated. Stefano Pioli is the winner of the second edition of the Gentleman Coach Gigi Simoni 2021/22 and succeeds in the roll of honor to Claudio Ranieri, who was voted by B colleagues in the 2020/21 season.
“Young people do not need sermons but examples, and I try to be one. Winning the Scudetto brought us so many accolades, but I am proud and honored to receive this award. Gigi Simoni has always been a reference point for his human depth, I am really pleased to be juxtaposed with him for these qualities and characteristics. Receiving an award then from my colleagues is
always gratifying, because you know the complexities of this job,” Stefano Pioli said after receiving the award.
