Novak Djokovic consoles Carlos Alcaraz
The words of Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic spoke on the court after his victory against Alcaraz: “The most important thing: too bad for Carlos. At this level the last thing you want is cramps and physical problems in the final stages of a Slam. I feel sorry for him and hope he can come back quickly. When we shook hands I told him he is very young, he has time and he will win this tournament so many times.”
“He is a fighter, a polite guy, he deserves applause and encouragement. It’s tough for him, he didn’t quite know whether to finish it this way or retire. Congratulations for gritting his teeth to the last point, I have great respect for that. We were at our physical limit at the end of the second set, I didn’t feel so fresh. We played it shoulder to shoulder, it was a balanced match. Then what happened at the end of the second game of the third set, the match clearly became different. However, I didn’t want to think about what was happening on the other side of the net. I repeat: utmost respect for Carlos and I hope he can come back soon.”
