Gino Mäder dead, Mario Cipollini’s grief
Mario Cipollini expresses grief over the tragic death of Gino Mäder
Mario Cipollini, a great former sprinter as well as the world road champion in 2002, expressed through his social channels all his sorrow for the tragic death of Gino Mäder.
“Today cycling loses a son,a brother a friend,” wrote the Tuscan. “I join the condolences of all those who love this guy. Sometimes I cannot explain to myself how it can, such a wonderful sport become cruel to a 26-year-old boy, but maybe the answer does not exist. Who knows, maybe up there where you go another Gino (Bartali), along with all the other climbers like you, can help you get some answers. I want to think of you having fun shooting up the endless climbs of heaven.”
Mäder had fallen Thursday on the steep descent of the Albulapass in the finale of stage 5 of the Tour de Suisse, ending up in a cliff. Despite immediate help, there was nothing for him to do: he passed away on Friday morning.
