Ice hockey in mourning: death of Leo Insam

Farewell to Leo Insam

Tremendous mourning for Italian ice hockey. At just 48 years old, Leo Insam, from Val Gardena, one of the Peninsula’s best defensemen, has died. ‘Alto Adige’ reports.

Insam had begun his professional career with HC Gardena in 1992-93, and remained there for two seasons before moving to Canada for one season and then returning to Val Gardena for a year. For three seasons he stayed abroad before returning to Italy in 2000 to Asiago Hockey AS, and then moved to Milan where with the Vipers, in 4 seasons, he won everything: 3 league titles, one Italian Cup, 2 Italian Super Cups. In the 2004-05 season he signed with HC Bolzano with whom, between 2004 and 2009, he won an Italian Cup, 2 Italian Super Cups and a Scudetto. He retired in 2010.

After closing his sports career, Leo Insam had worked as a hotelier. He leaves behind three children.
