Charles Leclerc’s words

Charles Leclerc spoke at a press conference ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he has never scored a podium in Formula 1 and wants to reverse the trend: “I don’t believe in bad luck. I don’t think in the past it’s been a track where I’ve been particularly strong. I had a good weekend last year, but obviously we couldn’t get on the podium for many reasons. But I think in the end the pace was there. The previous year, honestly, I don’t think I did a great job on this track. However, I am confident that we will do well this weekend.”

The characteristics of the circuit boost the Ferrari driver’s confidence: “We are going in the right direction. Then, as we saw in the last race at Silverstone, when the wind really picks up on Sunday, it is still one of our main weaknesses. On paper, [the Hungaroring] suits our car a little bit more. But again, every weekend there seems to be a surprise from one or the other team. So we’ll see.”

The Monegasque also returned to the disappointing race at Silverstone: “I think we now understand which tracks we struggle most on. Unfortunately, Silverstone was one of them. We knew that on paper it would not be a great weekend for us. Saturday went pretty well, considering what we expected. Sunday went worse than we expected. But again, we know why.”

Wind was one of the biggest problems at Silverstone: “Wind conditions are an important factor. It has a big influence for us, probably more than the other cars on the grid. We can’t be consistent in these situations. Since the beginning of the year we have taken a big step forward. The situation was worse than it is now. But we still need to take steps forward.”
