Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur says goodbye to another pillar
Decision made long ago but now made official
Ferrari’s season is uphill. The results are not as hoped and, as if that were not enough, many key men of the Cavallino have decided to accept other challenges. This is the case of Mekies who, at Spa, the next round of the F1 World Championship, will not be at the Ferrari’s race wall.
Of the farewell of what Vasseur called “a pillar of Ferrari” has been known for some time. Now it has all become official with the French engineer declining the invitation to “participate” in the trip to Belgian soil. In fact, the Hungarian GP was his last Grand Prix at the Cavallino’s race wall.
He will now stand still (FIA regulation issues) but, from January 1, he will be in charge of Alpha Tauri with the clear goal of doing great things and, why not, aspire to even more prestigious roles in other top stables. According to Corriere dello Sport, Mekies could, one day, even be considered to pick up the heavy legacy of Horner, who, after so many seasons at Red Bull, may also decide to pursue other goals. In the meantime, for Mekies, it will be vital to take Alpha Tauri to the next step, taking advantage of the experience he gained at Ferrari. Ferrari, which, officially, has lost another very important piece within its organizational chart.
