Coppa Italia: Sassuolo, Salernitana and Lecce advance. Monza eliminated by surprise
The real surprise of Sunday’s round of 32 of the Coppa Italia concerns Monza, which falls against Reggiana (1-2). Advancing, however, were Sassuolo, which beat Cosenza after extra time 5-2, Salernitana, victorious 1-0 over Ternana, and Lecce, which beat Como by the same score.
At the U-Power Stadium, Monza took the lead through former Inter Milan player D’Ambrosio but in the second half was reeled back in by the Granata: in the 64th minute Nardi evened the score and in the 84th a penalty by Cigarini signed the final overtake for the guests.
At the San Vito in Cosenza, a Tutino penalty put the hosts ahead. Late in the first half, however, Bajrami scored the equalizer, and ten from the end Pinamonti made it 2-1 for the neroverdi from the penalty spot. In full recovery, however, Mazzocchi brings the match back to 2-2, sending the game into overtime. Here there was no history: first Ceide and then a double by Mulattieri set the score at 5-2 for the guests.
In front of a packed Arechi, Salernitana needed only a goal from Candreva in the 7th minute to eliminate Ternana and enter the round of 16.
At the Via del Mare, Lecce beat Como by a narrow margin thanks to a goal by new signing Almqvist midway through the first half.
