Sebastian Vettel’s words

Sebastian Vettel to The Red Bullettin returned to talk about his new life: “The first few months went by quickly and it was nice to enjoy the time off. Many factors contributed to my decision to retire: I didn’t quit because I didn’t like the sport anymore, because I was too slow or because I absolutely wanted to do something else. The reasons for withdrawals are very individual.”

“For me, time was one of the determining factors: the many competitions and the knowledge of how much effort it takes to do the job well takes a lot of time. I have young children at home, though, and these years are not coming back. Of course, I miss the driving, the competition, the thrill you get when you have one shot left in qualifying, the duels in the race-these are aspects you enjoy. But I didn’t want to make certain compromises anymore. Besides, my children have the right for me to be more present for them,” he concluded.

Mika Hakkinen spoke about modern Formula 1 to sport1.de: “In general, it is very difficult for young drivers nowadays.”

“Before, in my time, there was a lot more testing, and the drivers had time to develop technically in cooperation with the team. There are practically no more tests, you just sit in the simulator and are judged by that. It is very difficult for young drivers to show that they are making progress and becoming really good. You have to put all the different aspects together first. When I joined McLaren, the team gave me the time I needed to be able to grow. Today you have to succeed on the first try, otherwise you’re out.”
