Germany knocks out Banchero: U.S. eliminated
Germany-USA 113-111
Historic feat by Germany in the second semifinal of the 2023 Basketball World Cup. The Germans eliminated the U.S., the big favorites for the final victory, reaching the final, where they will face Serbia, which had beaten Canada in the morning.
It ends 113 to 111 in favor of Gordon Herbert’s men. In the first two quarters Germany held its own against the Americans, who went to rest leading by only one point (60-59). In the resumption, however, especially in the third quarter, the Germans went wild and, thanks to an irrepressible Theis, author of 21 points, and continuous baskets by Obst (top scorer of the game with 24 points) and Wagner (22 points) touched +12 twice.
In the last quarter the comeback attempt of Steve Kerr's men, among whom the last to surrender è Edwards, author of 23 points, is repelled by the German defensive wall. Germany, still undefeated in the entire World Cup, thus won its first rainbow final in history. The United States will play for the Bronze medal against Canada.
