Goodbye to John Lodetti

Another piece of soccer history going. It’ Giovanni Lodetti has died. He had turned 81 last August 10.

He’ was one of the great protagonists of AC Milan’s successes in the ’60s: unjustly often downgraded to wingman to teammate Gianni Rivera, he was a gritty midfielder but also possessed technical skills, as he proudly kept remembering, with the friendliness that always distinguished him and that will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to know him.

In his career he won everything: 2 Scudetti, 2 Champions Cups, 2 Cup Winners’ Cups, an Intercontinental Cup and an Italian Cup with the Milan jersey, plus a European Championship with the blue of the National Team in 1968.

Sampdoria, Foggia and Novara the other club teams in which Lodetti played.
