Davide Formolo still can’t believe it

The winner of the 2023 Agostoni Cup doesn't hold back emotion

"I am very happy, I missed the feeling of victory". It's an emotional Davide Formolo who tells of his feelings on the sidelines of the triumphant day, for him and UAE Team Emirates, at the Coppa Agostoni 2023: the Emirates team was able to rejoice over a spectacular one-two on the finish line in Lissone, with Marc Hirschi è placing second.

"I had the task of reducing as much as possible the number of riders in the group on the Lissolo, the selection brought me in the leading group with 4 other riders – he told the official team channels -. When Hirschi è joined us, I focused my energies on maintaining a high pace so as to benefit Marc for a possible sprint".

Things, però went differently: "We noticed that the others were watching him, so we decided to try something: I attacked on the last climb and that è was the winning move" said Formolo, who had not won a race since 2020, when he asserted himself in the third stage of the Tour of Dauphiné.

Formolo, born in 1992, had achieved several significant placings this season but never a success: he had come very close to winning at the beginning of the year, at the Saudi Tour, which eluded him by just 8" of gap in the final general classification to Portuguese Ruben Guerreiro.
