The words of Andrea Abodi

Sports Minister Andrea Abodi has defended Jannik Sinner after criticism followed his decision not to participate in the Davis Cup round.

"Jannik has always shown great maturityà and an important presidium of values" he told SuperTennis on the sidelines of the first day of Tennis&Friends in Rome.

It will beà Jannik Sinner the extra weapon of Italy at the Davis Finals in Malaga. Filippo Volandri è convinced of this: "Every captain would like to be able to field a world number four. He also è been there for us, supported us, we can&#39t wait to have him back in the team", confessed at the Trento Sports Festival the non-playing captain of the Italian Davis Cup team.

"Jannik world number four like Panatta in '76? I didn’t think about it, I thought more about the path he had taken, very proud of the important choices he made,” he continued, “His dedication, his desire to get there made the difference. And also his tactical intelligence. He has a fire inside even if he seems a bit glacial. His will; to get to the top can make the difference".

He is echoed by Federtennis president Angelo Binaghi. "We should be proud and proud to have a player like Sinner, let’s remember that when it happens that he loses a match and makes a mistake – explains the federal number 1 – Sinner’s good fortune lies in his weaknesses, è a much less complete player than the three in front of him. The fact that he continues to have stamina limitations or that he needs to improve something like serve and smash, tell that the margins to grow further are".

“The ATP Finals in Turin are more important for us than the Olympic Games,” Binaghi continued. “We are using the most capacious facility in Italy and we are on our way to a full house. It means that our sport now needs much more capacious facilities. We alone in taxes return to the state more than three times what we receive in contributions".
