Naples, Victor Osimhen reveals a backstory on "NO" to Saudi Arabia
During an episode of the "Obi One Podcast" podcast hosted by'former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen è returned to talk about the interest shown by Al-Hilal in him in the last soccer market session.
"What è was said è was true. I have to be honest, I had never thought about leaving last summer because Napoli wanted to keep me, but when è the offer from Saudi Arabia came è it was very difficult to refuse. I talked to the club and decided to stay,” the Nigerian center forward began.
" It was crazy, because the more I said no, the more they increased the economic offer. They never gave up until the last day of the market, but before the first official game I told them it was a closed chapter for it. It was an offer of the kind that can change your life, but my will was to stay in Europe and so I think I made a good decision for my career. As much as we play soccer for money, there'é also a kind of honor that goes with it" continued last season's top scorer.
"When the moment of the Scudetto was approaching, he sent us a long emotional message, in which he made us understand what such an achievement could have meant for the city. It gave us goose bumps. Those words were a great motivation and a turning point for all of us. From that moment on, we approached every match at our best. Against Juventus at halftime he made us all stand up and told us that he did not want to be remembered as a coach without trophies, just as we players did not want to be remembered as those who had won nothing. He made us understand that we had a great opportunity to change our lives. Having won the Scudetto with Napoli è a great thing for me, people stop me in the street to thank me" added the former Lille center forward regarding Luciano Spalletti.
"I had two jerseys that I got from my brother. I had one from Chelsea and one from Manchester United. A lot of my friends are Chelsea fans, a little bit less are United fans. Everyone in Nigeria watches the Premier League, è something unique for any African citizen. The intensity'è è is very high"” Victor Osimhen remarked.
