Sofia Goggia bitter on Super-G cancellation
Sofia Goggia doesn't hide bitterness
The decision, by the organizers of the Alpine Ski World Cup, to cancel the Super-G encore in St. Moritz, Switzerland, è was commented on with a hint of bitterness by Sofia Goggia: the winner of the first Super-G, raced on Friday, entrusted her thoughts to a story posted on Instagram on Sunday morning, when the cancellation was confirmed.
"Today race cancelled – said Sofia Goggia, addressing her more than 530 thousand followers -, too much snow fell overnight. Strange…come on? Out of five speed races, they canceled three…". In addition to today’s Super-G, the two Zermatt/Cervinia downhill races scheduled for last November 18 and 19 had in fact been canceled, again due to bad weather.
The champion from Bergamo was thus unable to chase an encore, just as she was unable to fight for success number 24 in the World Cup, having joined Federica Brignone just Friday, at 23. Her regret and bitterness don't change things, however: the athletes must return home and prepare for next weekend, in Val d'Isere, where a downhill (Saturday) and a Super-G (Sunday) are scheduled.
Just in Val d'Isere, forò weather disrupted the men's World Cup weekend to the point of forcing organizers to cancel the special slalom event. The wave of bad weather, according to forecasts, is expected to continue until at least the middle of next week, the CdM athletes are hoping that good weather will return in the time it is convenient to compete.
