Sofia Goggia misses podium in Val d'Isere

Sofia Goggia did not repeat in Val d'Isere. In fact, the Bergamo-born skier, who had won the last three races on the Oreiller-Killy slope (downhill in 2020, downhill and SuperG in 2021), finished fourth in the second stage of the World Cup women’s downhill, 44 hundredths behind the winner Jasmine Flury, the reigning world champion.

The Swiss skier, who had yet to triumph in World Cup downhill, was ahead of compatriot Joana Halen, who signed a Swiss one-two. In third place came Austrian Cornelia Huetter, just ahead of Sofia Goggia, who was just off the podium. The Italian è however, returned in possession of the red bib of specialty leader.

Among Italians, Federica Brignone finished in the Top 10, placing eighth. With this result, the Aosta Valley native climbs to second place in the overall standings, behind Mikaela Shiffrin, who was absent in the Val D'Isere downhill.
