Super League ruling, Napoli’s lawyer speaks
Sports law expert Mattia Grassani spoke to the microphones of Kiss Kiss Napoli about the Superleague issue. Here are his words.
"This ruling has already had an effect, that is, it has posed a problem that was buried in recent months. Becauseé no one expected this verdict, it opens up competition from the duopoly of Fifa and Uefa that seemed untouchable. The ruling has re-established parity between continental and global clients, and the same clubs that manage players and stadiums as well as perform within the competitions organized by the players”.
“From the clash we would all lose, so better to be open to dialogue regarding stimulus needs to broaden the choice of clubs. Fifa and Uefa will no longer be able to have the centrality they had until now, but they will have to listen to the awareness of the clubs. De Laurentiis è a president who è is already ahead, and he had already stated that he was sensitive to this aspect and that he could open up to new markets. He comes from the world of cinema, and this conception he had already matured 20 years ago. I do not think he ever precludes himself from any new solution, while others have already closed the doors to this project”.
“For me the position of Napoli è intermediate right now, they want to evaluate but at the same time they do not preclude themselves from joining in case of advantageous conditions and important prospects. I don't think it could ever come to the extradition of clubs from our league should they join a competition like the Superleague. It would be a sensational gesture but also a damage to the image of our soccer. It would cause cascading effects of lawsuits with fans and sponsors”.
“In basketball the situation è clear, there are not only merit-based competitions, but elite invitational events where teams participate without leaving the national championship. And this is also happening in rugby, and with this decision of the EU Court invites us to seize the positive aspects, such as those of taking away the monopoly of players not only on the organization of tournaments but also on the sale of the product in the strict sense".
