Italian Cup: Milan-Cagliari 4-1

Milan starts 2024 on the right foot. In fact, the Rossoneri, despite the large turnover made by Stefano Pioli, won with a net 4-1 over Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari, gaining access to the quarterfinals of the 2023-2024 Coppa Italia.

The first chance è for Cagliari on 4’: Petagna hit a header from a good position, but found a good response from Mirante, who deflected it into a corner. Four minutes later comes Milan’s first ringer with Jovic, who on an excellent pass from Adli, hits the ball too weakly.

On 29’ the Rossoneri manage to find the lead: Theo lets off a cross from the left for Jovic, who with control manages to evade the intervention of Hatzidiakos and from close range manages to beat the red-blù extreme defender. On 42’ comes the Rossoneri double again on the Theo-Jovic axis: the French flanker recovers the ball and goes all over the field at full speed and crosses low for the Serbian, who manages to seal his double thanks also to a faulty response by Radunovic.

In the second half, Milan immediately managed to find the third goal at 50’: Jimenez serves Chukwueze in the box,,, who fails to hit the ball and on the loose ball young Chaka Traoré è the mostù quickest to pounce and beat Radunovic, scoring his first goal with the first team.

At 87’ Cagliari managed to find the goal of the flag with Azzi, who from long distance managed to beat Mirante, thanks to a deflection by Simic. In the midst of the recovery, however, there’è joy also for Leao, who, after taking over from the bench and failing two good chances, manages to beat Radunovic for the fourth time with a precise right flat, sealing the final 4-1 and finding again a goal that had been missing since last November 7 (Mlan-PSG 2-1).

In the next round, Milan will face the winner of the match between Atalanta and Sassuolo, who will take the field on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Gewiss Stadium. In the league, however, the Rossoneri, in the next round will face Empoli, while Cagliari will play away against Lecce.
