Winning debut in Melbourne for Jannik Sinner. The South Tyrolean began his path to the 2024 Kooyong Classic by beating host Marc Polmans. Despite a start in which Sinner had to adapt to the weather conditions, he eventually dominated the match winning 6-4, 6-0.
After missing a few break points in the first set, Sinner è managed to break Polmans’ serve and won the last nine games of the match. In the second set, Sinner è was aggressive and confident, while Polmans struggled to keep up.
"Last year è was a good end to the season and I am starting from scratch to try to gain the same confidence again,” the world number four said at the end of the match, “obviously the first match you play è tough but I am satisfied".
The Kooyong Classic tournament has a long tradition and a prestigious roll of honor, with winners such as Michael Chang, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick. Matteo Berrettini è is also in the tournament, although he did not play on the first day. The tournament will be staged until Jan. 12.
