Women’s skiing Italy experiences another historic day, with two athletes on the podium in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee downhill. Sofia Goggia gets victory number 24 of her career (the 18th in downhill) and joins Federica Brignone and Gustav Thoeni on the all-time list of the most successful Italians.

The Bergamasque champion è very precise in the key passages of the Austrian slope, composed on the jumps, and always manages to keep herself at a very high speed, unreachable for her opponents. Her final time è 1’46″47, 10 hundredths ahead of Austria’s Stephanie Venier and 34 hundredths better than the pair consisting of Nicol Delago and Mirjam Puchner, in third place. For Delago, this is the fourth podium of her career, but above all, it is the certification of the Gardena sprinter’s newfound competitiveness.

Race spoiled by some mistakes for Federica Brignone, who accuses a delay of 1″39 from her teammate, out of the top ten and preceded by Laura Pirovano, with a delay of 1″26. They finish 13th and 14th. Nadia Delago takes 2 seconds from the leader, Monica Zanoner 3″10, while Marta Bassino makes a bad mistake in the upper part of the course and accumulates more than 4 seconds of disadvantage.

Goggia retains the discipline’s red bib with 230 points, ahead of Flury with 137 and Puchner at 131. In the overall standings Brignone makes up more points to Mikaela Shiffrin (absent) and moves to -164 from the leader. On Sunday, the Austrian race program will close with the second super-G, with the start scheduled for 11 a.m.
